Watch: Selena Gomez reacts to Indian fan’s request to chant ‘Jai Shri Ram’

A recent video of pop star Selena Gomez with an Indian fan is gaining widespread attention on the internet. In the clip, the Indian man asks the 32-year-old American singer-actor to chant “Jai Shri Ram” for a video selfie.
The video, initially shared by photographer Pallav Paliwal on Instagram, shows Selena posing for a selfie with the fan. After thanking her for the picture, he requests, “Say Jai Shri Ram,” just as she starts to leave. Selena responds with “Jai Shri Ram,” but phrases it as a question, indicating her interest in what she is being asked to say.
The man then explains to Selena, “India’s best slogan – Jai Shri Ram.”
“Aww, thank you, honey,” Selena replied.
The video was shared on Instagram with the caption, “One of our followers met Selena Gomez and she said ‘Jai Shri Ram’ on the occasion of Diwali (sic).” However, eagle-eyed fans were quick to point out that the video was not recent. They highlighted that Selena’s outfit was the one she wore to the Cannes Film Festival this year.
As it went viral on Instagram and X, the video garnered a negative response from social media users. “Don’t you guys feel embarrassed? (sic),” one comment read. Another Instagram user chimed in, “I’m sorry, Selena, on his behalf (sic).” One user also called the video “Embarrassing.”
On Pallav Paliwal’s post, the video has received 21,783 likes and over 1.2 million views.
